Publications
Advanced Decisions publishes a monthly e-column for a select group of
Development professionals who have opted in. We also publish
articles on a variety of subjects relating to execution and improvement
in product development. In addition, each of our two principals
maintain blogs, which you can access here.
Our main interests are in exploring the following three areas that affect product development organizations. We believe these three areas will undergo major improvements in the next decade: Communications; Process; and Development Approaches.
Communications
With many product development organizations adopting international
models of development, clear communication is becoming increasingly
critical to the success of any particular project. The difficulty
of crossing langauge barriers, cultural barriers and different
approaches to development, are issues that many companies are only
beginning to explore. New methods of simplifying communication
and structuring development organizations so that communications are
more direct are areas that we believe are ripe for sharing knowledge
and best practices.
Process
Over the past several years, process has become one of the hottest
buzzwords in the Development Industry. At Advanced Decisions, we
are especially interested in the "human" elements of process.
These involve procedures and methods for obtaining feedback from
different stakeholder groups, building improvement into the development
effort and ensuring that decision-making is occuring at the right
levels. It is becoming increasingly clear to us that specific
processes and process metrics are just the beginning of a range of
improvements in how we develop products.
Development Approaches
The software development process that companies use is only a starting
point for the broader development of a product, and the manner in which
it is brought to market (which we call the companies' approach to
development). We believe that as companies continue to refine
their processes and impose production standards, the Development
Industry as a whole will evolve or discover new approaches to
development, as it has continually over the past several decades.
